Life Buddies
Life buddies are peer counselors who meet with seniors in their home. Seniors requesting peer counseling are facing mental distress due to living in isolation, the stress of being a family caregiver, or a senior overwhelmed in managing her/his chronic illness(es). Life buddies, who are matched with a senior living in the same city, will meet with their seniors weekly for at least an hour. In addition to orientation training that is require of all volunteers, life buddies will receive up to 20 hours of additional, specialized training. Life buddies also participate in a monthly supervision meeting to discuss their cases. All volunteers must agree to a background check.
